Welcome to Garscadden Burn Medical Practice

 GARSCADDEN BURN MEDICAL PRACTICE

At the moment like the rest of the NHS we are receiving extremely high levels of phone calls and demand for appointments.  The vast majority of callers are polite and courteous and understand the difficult and skilled job that our receptionists do.  However we have a zero tolerance policy for the small minority of people who are abusive to our staff.   We would ask for your patience at this time.  If you have a problem that is urgent and cannot wait please inform the reception team.  They have been trained to ask for some details so that they can help you to get to the right care.  All our calls are now recorded for training and monitoring purposes.

Please support your local practice team by complying with this guidance.

It is important to note that the Practice is still open.

We are now offering patients either a face to face with the Doctor or a telephone appointment.  You should telephone at 8am and keep holding as you will be in a queue, do not hang up otherwise you go back to the end of the queue. Reception staff will ask for a brief description if you request a telephone appointment to ensure you do not require an examination.  Please inform the receptionist if you have changed your contact telephone number.

WHEN YOU ORDER YOUR PRESCRIPTION ON THE ANSWERING MACHINE PLEASE INFORM US WHICH PHARMACY YOU  USE AND WE CAN ARRANGE FOR YOUR PRESCRIPTION TO BE SENT THERE.  YOU CAN ALSO ORDER YOUR MEDICATION ONLINE PLEASE ASK AT RECEPTION FOR DETAILS.

Advice if you feel unwell

Everyone is aware these days of how stretched the NHS is.

Here (https://nhsinform.scot/self-help-guides) is a helpful guide to different symptoms and what steps you can take for self help, with guidance on when you might need to make an appointment with a professional and who you should see.  You can also phone the NHS Inform advice team on 0800 22 44 88 or use the webchat facility on www.nhsinform.scot/ to get advice online.

The NHS is a precious resource that we all share.  Making good use of the professional help available while knowing what to do when professional help isn't needed is one way we can all help to protect its future.

Trainee GP

We are delighted to announce that we are now a Training Practice. As a Training Practice we have a Specialist GP Trainee(s) working within the Practice.  As part of their ongoing education there may be occasions when they are required to video consultations for training purposes.  Patients will be informed in advance of this occurring and if they do not wish to take part their wishes will be respected. Our Trainee(s) are Dr Laura White who will be with us until September 2023, and Dr Gillian Dunwoodie, who will be with us until May 2024 and Dr Michael Dodds who will be with us until February 2024.  The trainee Doctors will see patients the same way as the other GP's.

We hope you enjoy having a look around the site and familiarising yourself with some of the online features such as ordering a repeat prescription.

Why We're Called Garscadden Burn Medical Practice

Before we moved to the Health Centre in Drumchapel the surgery was at 144 Garscadden Road, (as well as having other branches on Spey Rd and Merryton Ave). That is where our former senior partner Dr Nugent lived and cut his teeth as a new GP. So our new practice name celebrates our practice' roots.

The land that our health centre is built on belonged to Garscadden estate, with Garscadden House on the hill behind us. These have a very long and interesting history so the new name also celebrates our local heritage.

Also, the lovely woodland that is associated with Drumchapel the bluebell woods, the valley and the burn behind the health centre (which is a protected site) are called Garscadden Woods and Garscadden Burn(below) respectively. So it represents our local ecology. This picture of a beautiful orchid growing near Garscadden Burn behind our health centre was taken in early August of this year.
